a place of timeless elegance

PictureFrancis Isidore Power
Whether you are looking for the perfect surrounds to enjoy a sensational meal, a spacious venue for a celebration or a romantic, ambient setting for your wedding day, Gunabul Homestead offers the ultimate atmosphere to make your occasion memorable. Every aspect of the design of this grand old lady was carefully and lovingly planned with luxury and the highest quality in mind.

Gunabul Homestead was built circa 1885. The home was commissioned by local solicitor, Francis Power for his wife Elizabeth and their six children.

The property was built over a number of years, because Mr Power demanded a house of grandeur, with the finest, timeless design and the best quality timbers and materials. Mr Power invested an enormous amount of money in this project, and gathered together the trades people and craftsman who had the skills to bring his opulent vision to life.
Within Gunabul Homestead, there are particular design features which were unique in their day, and which have been meticulously preserved to evoke memories of a bygone era when such craftsmanship was so highly prized.

The elegant drawing room was built around a stunning Italian marble fireplace, which is frequently used as a decorative feature during weddings at Gunabul. This room is now the main function room.  The homestead boasts soaring 13ft ceilings, which give a regal, light and spacious feel to the property. Unusually, the windows which lead out to the sweeping verandah area retract into the ceilings, and are still in perfect working order today.
This design features affords guests the opportunity to take in the magnificent views of the immaculately kept gardens under their canopy of ancient trees, and the serenity of the adjacent golf course. Photo opportunities abound.

Today, the property is owned by Peter and Robyn Snelling and their children Carl, Vicki and Erin. Peter and Robyn added the Par 3 golf course in 1997 and more recently have added three cottages for weekend, midweek or short term accommodation. These added features makes Gunabul a fabulous venue for everything from corporate functions to anniversary celebrations, weddings, and fine dining.

Gunabul Homestead sits on 40 lush green acres of what once was prime grazing land. In 1997, after a great deal of meticulous planning, Gunabul’s par 3 golf course was established. The Gunabul golf course is a truly relaxing and superb rural setting to play 18 holes of golf.

In 2011, Peter and Robyn welcomed chefs George Isaac & Kirstyn Owens of Zesty Edibles catering to continue operating the function rooms and restaurant at Gunabul Homestead. The couple bring a wealth of experience, having traveled the world to pursue their passion for fine food. Each and every meal is lovingly prepared with this passion and experience. Each dish and menu is designed to take advantage of the best and most abundant fresh, seasonal ingredients that the Mary Valley farming community has to offer.
